US Basis Gas Trader (m/f) at New York

Our headquarters boast Europes largest energy trading floor, complementing additional sites in Europe, the Middle East, Asia and the Americas.

To start as soon as possible, we are looking for a "US BASIS GAS TRADER (M/F)" for RWE Supply & Trading GmbH,location Essen or New York.

Our US gas trading business is expanding its regional coverage. The trading desk is therefore looking for an experienced US Basis Gas Trader to complement the existing trading team and bring in an in-depth knowledge of the regional US gas markets. Your detailed understanding of the fundamental price drivers and interactions of the regional US gas markets will enable you to help build an asset light, financial natural gas trading desk, covering major market hubs in the US.

Further responsibilities will be:

• identifying, valuing and executing proprietary trading strategies

• managing financial outright and spread risk within approved mandates

• working with our structuring team to identify, price and enter into complex gas transactions

• communicating market activity and expectations to senior management

• alongside other members of the desk, ensuring proper coverage and management of all books and positions

• assisting in processing new products through the internal approval process

• aiding in directing and developing the analyst team.

Your profile:

• university degree in economics, finance, mathematics, physics or equivalent

• several years of progressive trading experience in the regional US NatGas markets

• strong track record of profitable proprietary gas trading

• expert understanding of major US gas trading hubs, ideally with an emphasis on Northeast hubs (Algonquin, Tetco M3, Dominion South, Transco Z6 NY), their fundamental price drivers and pricing dynamics

• valuation of gas assets, bidding for gas transportation and other structured origination experience would be ideal

• strong quantitative and analytical skills, sound conceptual thinking

• understanding of CFTC, Dodd-Frank and ICE/CME rules and regulations

• work experience in modelling, optimisation and time series analysis techniques, preferably in an energy trading or banking/financial environment

• excellent communication skills

• proficient IT skills in the MS Windows environment (particularly Excel, Access)

• language skills: fluent in English and ideally basic knowledge in German

• very good team player, high level of self-motivation and flexibility, ability to work in a trading environment and to meet tight deadlines.
