Family Advocate, EarlyLearn NYC at Brooklyn

Job Description

Description: The Family Advocate for EarlyLearn, is responsible for coordinating and implementing all site-based family involvement activities related to EarlyLearn. Reporting to the Parent Involvement Coordinator-EarlyLearn, the family advocate will recruit and register eligible families, orient families to the EarlyLearn program services, engage in family goal setting plans, and assist with the coordination of social and health/nutrition services. The Family Advocate will provide oversight, management and evaluation of parent education and volunteer programs in collaboration with the academy director and parent involvement coordinator and based on family needs and goals. The Family Advocate will be responsible for establishing an EarlyLearn Parent Advisory Committee at each site and will have a specialty in supporting families and establishing community linkages.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
  • Serves as a member of the Brightside Academy Education Team to provide support to families
  • Implements recruitment , eligibility and enrollment processes for families
  • Enters eligibility and enrollment data in ACSs Web-based Enrollment System (WES)
  • Orients families to all aspects of EarlyLearn NYC
  • Monitors attendance
  • Completes family goal setting plans with all enrolled families
  • Encourages a continuous exchange of ideas and maintains positive relationships with the parent involvement coordinator, family support services coordinator, academy staff, academy directors, area business directors, regional director and external technical assistance providers
  • Develops strategies that connect all parent involvement activities with the goal of improving child outcomes
  • Conducts needs assessments and other research necessary for completing academy self-assessments for programmatic improvement
  • Collaborates with service area staff in delivering high quality, integrated services to families
  • Conducts monthly Parent Advisory Committee meetings
  • Oversees Parent Advisory Committee elections for officers
  • Coordinates all parent education activities in collaboration with the parent involvement coordinator
  • Works closely and collaboratively with the family support services coordinator to establish linkages for families for needed social service, health and nutrition support and educational opportunities
  • Monitors all family goal setting plans for implementation and progress reporting
  • Prepares and maintains accurate records and documentation
  • Attends all ACS sponsored trainings related to EarlyLearn NYC
  • Produces reports as requested and required


Job Requirements

Core Competencies:
  • Working knowledge of ACS policies and regulations
  • Working knowledge of diverse family service needs in low-income communities
  • Ability to formulate and carry out effective work plans
  • Ability to facilitate coordination of multiple tasks
  • Ability to build effective working partnerships with diverse stakeholders for parent education programs
  • Ability to foster team building and work effectively as part of a team

  • Computer proficiency
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Minimum Requirements:
  • Associates degree from an accredited college or university
  • Three five years of full-time, paid, professional experience impacting diverse program assistance to families
  • Experience supporting staff in process improvement
Other Requirements:
  • This position includes the normal physical demands associated with work in an office environment, including lifting, bending and carrying.
  • This position includes the ability to travel independently throughout the region and to other regions where Brightside Academy facilities are located.
  • This position includes the ability to schedule work outside of the typical week, including nights and some weekends.
  • All other duties as assigned.
