Job Description

The Way Back is a non-profit organization which operates community based transitional residential facilities for men and women ages 18 and over who have a primary psychiatric diagnosis. Founded in 1980, we are one of the oldest mental health housing providers on Long Island and in New York State. 

Direct care counselors assist mentally ill clients with daily living skills and rehabilitative services.

 Direct Care Counselor- Weekend Shift

Hours: Friday 1:30pm through Monday 9:00am. This is a 44 hour shift.

Direct Care Counselor- Evening Shift

Hours: Monday through Thursday – 1:00pm-11:00pm

Job Requirements

Education and/or Experience REQUIRED: High school Diploma Accepted. Associates degree in Psychology or Sociology/ Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology or Sociology Highly Preferred. Previous on-the-job experience in community residential programs or counseling situation. Considerable knowledge of mental illness required.
