Incumbent serves as the Superintendent at Sagamore Hill National Historic Site, located in Oyster Bay, NY.  Incumbent has complete and overall responsibility for the management of the resources of the park and for its operations for the enjoyment and benefit of the public. Manages and maintains a positive working relationship with the park employees including community representatives and a variety of officials within and outside the Bureau concerning the delegated authorities related to the management and preservation of the cultural, historical, and natural resources of the Park. The frequency, intensity and changing nature of external influences requires the incumbent to anticipate future requirements with accuracy to adjust human, material and fiscal resources to maintain programmed service levels and to meet un-programmed needs  Numerous programs, projects and activities, some of which may be conflicting in nature and require careful planning and coordination to achieve successful results, must be integrated into the Parks mission.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Occasionally is required to work under unusual and stressful situations which call for physical stamina and emotional stability.  The work is rarely sedentary and requires walking, driving, standing, and bending.  Travel to other areas is often required. 

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed primarily in an office setting.  However, work is also performed out-of-doors in various types of weather and terrain.

PARK INFORMATION: Sagamore Hill National Historic Site was the home of Theodore Roosevelt, 26th President of the United States, from 1885 until his death in 1919.  During Roosevelts time in office, his "Summer White House" was the focus of international attention.  Sagamore Hill NHS is located in Oyster Bay, NY.  Oyster Bay is located on Long Island bordered by the Atlantic Ocean and the Long Island Sound.  The Towns communities have distinctly unique flavor, boasting pristine beaches, beautiful waterfronts, picturesque parks, nature preserves, wildlife sanctuaries, historic site and fine shopping.

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement, Friday, August 02, 2013.  Qualifying experience may be obtained in the private or public sectors. 

QUALIFICATIONS: To be eligible for this position, you must possess the qualifying specialized experience as described in the occupational/assessment questionnaire and as outlined below.

GS-12: One year (full time 52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of at least the GS-11 level in the Federal service.  Specialized experience demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform successfully the duties of the position to be filled.  Examples of qualifying specialized experience includes, but is not limited to: planning, organizing and execution of mission based programs; establishing and developing long range goals and standards related to mission-centered operations; active experience in public relations and collaboration; significant experience in a full realm of administrative duties to include both human resources and budget; providing leadership necessary to build a climate for effective employee motivation; or other related work.

GS-13: One year (full time 52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of at least the GS-12 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform successfully the duties of the position to be filled.  Examples of qualifying specialized experience includes, but is not limited to: significant experience planning, organizing and execution of mission based programs; establishing and developing long range goals and standards related to mission-centered operations; extensive active experience in public relations and collaboration; significant experience in a full realm of administrative duties to include both human resources and budget; providing high level leadership and management necessary to build a climate for effective employee motivation; or other related work.

Time-in-Grade Requirements: Time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement. This requires applicants who have held a GS position at any time within the past 52 weeks to have served at least 52 weeks at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for this occupation.


 

Requirements

1. You may be required to serve a probationary period and/or a supervisory/managerial probationary period of 1 year.

2. Incumbent required to travel occasionally.

  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability to effectively manage capital assets and infrastructure.
  • Oversee a budget/finance program and property/acquisition for an organization.

You must include months, years and hours per week worked to receive credit for your work experience. One year of specialized experience is equivalent to 12 months at 40 hours per week. Part-time hours are prorated. You will not receive any credit for experience that does not indicate exact hours per week or is listed as "varies".
