This Program Support Assistant position is located in the Vet Center of the Veterans Affairs, Watertown, NY. Duties include but may not be limited to the following:
- Provides administrative, clerical and programmatic support to Team Leader and staff at the Watertown Vet Center.
- Compiles and maintains data, performs analysis and prepares reports.
- Utilizes computer software systems for data management, word processing and communications.
- Receives, screens, prioritizes all incoming correspondence; directing it to the appropriate staff member and ensures deadlines and suspense dates are met.
- Develops and initiates written correspondence.
- Perform customer service - responding and directing callers or visitors to the appropriate staff member and responds to information requests.
- Maintains office files and supplies.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00 am to 4:30 pm

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:Back to topTo qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements within 30 days after the closing date of this announcement.
Time-in-grade: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. Applicants must have one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade (GS-05) in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience that equipped them with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) to perform successfully the duties of this position, and that is typically in or related to the work of this position. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-05 level in Federal service. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include: performing clerical and administrative support duties including providing training to other staff regarding administrative procedures; managing and monitor an office budget; tracking and compiling data for reporting purposes; performing office automation duties using software applications such as e-mail, word processing, spreadsheets, databases; composing, typing and editing letters and reports; public contact work; maintaining appointments, schedules and calendars; coordinating meetings and conferences; and, ordering and monitoring office supplies and equipment.
A valid state drivers license is required as the incumbent may be required to travel to the Syracuse VA Medical Center, local Post Office or other related business destination in performance of their duties.
You will be rated on the following Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other characteristics (KSAOs) based on your application for this position:
- Skill in the use of computer software that includes - data input and maintenance, word processing, scanning, faxing, and communication programs.
- Ability to communicate in writing that includes preparing correspondence and reports.
- Skill in providing customer service.
- Ability to compile, analyze and maintain data and files.
- Ability to manage the administrative and clerical functions of an office.
