Major Duties:

The incumbentprovides Veterans with a range of social work services, including assessmentand referrals, clinical treatment, short-term case management, advocacy andservice coordination, and linkage with VA and community services. The incumbentpossesses knowledge of the needs of the homeless population. Has workingknowledge and experience in the use of medical, mental health, and substanceabuse treatment modalities.  Is able to complete a comprehensivepsychosocial assessment to identify strengths, needs, social support systems,disabilities, and barriers to accessing housing and available treatmentoptions. Has general knowledge of Veterans benefits and services related tospecial programs, service-connected compensation, non-service connected pensions,and benefits that are available on the federal and state levels, and throughcity/county social services.  

The incumbent issensitive to the needs of homeless Veterans and their families, realizing thathomelessness creates added stress on Veterans and their loved ones. Theincumbent is aware of the special challenges in working with Veterans withco-morbid physical, mental health and substance abuse diagnoses, and is able towork with this Veteran population. 

Incumbent isresponsible for outreach to homeless Veterans and can work confidently withcity/county agencies to increase resources for "on-the-street" ormarginally housed Veterans. The goal is to increase stability in Veterans’lives and assist Veterans in returning to independent, healthy, productivelifestyles. 

Tour of Duty: The hours of operation may vary Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. EST. Hours may change at the discretion of the  program.

Qualification Requirements: Meetsthe qualification standard for the GS-11  Licensed Clinical Social Worker or Advanced Practice Social Worker as defined in See VAHandbook 5005, Part II Appendix G, Social Worker Qualification Standard GS-185Veterans Health Administration. Completion of a minimum of 1 year of post-MSWdegree experience in the field of health care social work (VA or non-VAexperience) and licensure or certification in a state at the independentpractice level. Or, in addition to meeting basic requirements, a doctoraldegree in social work from a school of social work may be substituted for therequired 1 year professional social work experience in a clinical setting. AGS-11 social worker has a Master’s Degree in Social Work granted by a graduateprogram fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE).

The Social Work Professional Standards Baord will also set your grade and salary at that time. This process can take up to 4 weeks to complete.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Physical Requirements: Moderate walking and standing, Near vision correctable at 12" to 16" to Jaeger 1 to 4, Far vision correctable in one eye to 2020 and to 20/40 in the other, Hearing (aid permitted), Clear speech, emotional stability.
