Job Description
Our client; a major energy provider is seeking to recruit a highly motivated Department Manager to lead corporate and business strategy efforts. The manager will be responsible for structuring and executing projects on a timely basis. He/she will be responsible for managing projects including but not limited to evaluation of future industry trends, new business development, mergers and acquisitions, long range plan development and regulatory/ policy analysis. He/she should be comfortable both leading and acting as an intra-company liaison/expert/team member for cross functional efforts..Business Development:
The Department Manager will be asked to evaluate growth opportunities. In this role the Department Manager will provide important modeling and analytic support to development teams as well as advise the company and business unit’s management on major project proposals.
M&A:
The Department Manager will participate in all phases of M&A including monitoring the business landscape, conducting research on potential candidates for valuation, attractiveness and execution potential. The Department Manager will also be asked to provide important modeling and analytic support for negotiations, due diligence assessments, synergy assessments, and participating in transaction and integration phases.
Long Range Plan Development:
The Department manager will lead/coordinate efforts to review and modify long range plans. This will include review of planning assumptions, developing progress on strategic initiatives and the impact of new priorities. He/She will be responsible to develop and maintain income statements, cash flow and balance sheets and model impact to customer bills. In addition to financial analysis, the Department Manager will be required to rewrite plans as required.
Cross-functional Strategic Issues Teams
The Department Manager will be asked to lead or assist in the formation and mission of intra-company strategic issues teams as the need arises. The Department Manager will act as a liaison/expert/resource on strategic issues, etc.
Industry trends (including regulatory/policy analysis):
The Department Manager will monitor and analyze industry trends including developments in regulatory/policy efforts. The Department manager will conduct financial analysis to quantify potential impact to the company/business units
Job Requirements
To be successful the candidate must possess superior analytical skills, ability to gather required information, project management capability and oral/written communication skills. The candidate should be also comfortable in presenting to all levels of management and in front of large audiences.
Additional:
Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Engineering, Economics or related business area, and a Masters Degree in Business.
Eight to ten years’ experience with a minimum of 5 years in the industry, or a strong demonstrated capability to understand strategic issues in the utility/energy industry.
Knowledge of utility company’s general business, as well as financial modeling, computer systems software programs including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and the ability to learn specialized software tools such as Crystal Ball is required.
Must have a valid drivers license and be willing and able to travel.
