Safety, Health & Wellness Coordinator at Rochester

Job Description

Oversee and manage agency Worker’s Compensation, Disability, FMLA Leave, Leave of Absence and Safety Programs. Implement Wellness programs for the purpose of educating and engaging employees in healthy lifestyle choices. Prepare and conduct related training programs.

HUMAN RESOURCE ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

1) OUT-OF-WORK ADMINISTRATION

  • Interpret human resources policies and procedures with regards to paid and unpaid leaves of absence, FMLA, short-term disability, long-term disability, workers’ compensation. Educate and counsel employees and managers on policy and legal compliance regarding employee leaves and return to work requirements.
  • Assist the Human Resources Director with the administration of employee leave programs including paid and unpaid leaves of absence, FMLA, short-term disability, long-term disability and Workers’ Compensation. 
  • Maintain records regarding employee absences related to Worker’s Compensation, Disability and FMLA. Communicate information to managers and supervisors as needed.
  • Administer unemployment insurance program. Represent the Agency at unemployment hearings.
  • Maintain up-to-date working knowledge of relevant laws, including FMLA, Workers’ Compensation, unemployment and HIPAA. Identify and attend professional development programs as appropriate.
  • Communicate with employees and physicians regarding restrictions and return to work capabilities.
  • Coordinate light duty assignments and work with managers and supervisors regarding light duty assignments.

2) SAFETY AND ACCIDENTS

  • Act as Human Resource representative on Agency’s Special Review and Safety Committees by attending monthly meetings, bringing issues to the Human Resources Director’s attention when necessary.
  • Review accident reports to identify patterns of injury to determine whether unsafe conditions or improper physical techniques contributed to the accident. Make recommendations that will aid in reducing accidents and improve safety. 
  •  Assist the Director of Human Resources in the development of human resources policies and procedures

3) WELLNESS PROGRAM DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION

  • Assist the Human Resources Director in the design of the Agency wellness program with the purpose of achieving and maintaining a healthy workforce while ensuring the appropriate use of funds for wellness related purposes. Develop the goals and measures for the wellness program. 
  • Implement all wellness activities, including the annual Wellness Fair. 
  • Schedule and conduct monthly Wellness Committee Meetings.
  • Assist in the development and distribution of employee communications related to safety, health and wellness.
  • Keep current time card records for out of work employees. Coordinate with Payroll to ensure that the time and attendance records are current and accurate to meet payroll deadlines.

4) ADDITIONAL

  • Works with the program leadership to develop and implement changes in culture and training for staff.
  • Demonstrate flexible and efficient time management and ability to prioritize workload. 
  • Complete special projects by clarifying project objectives, setting timetables and schedules, conducting research, analyzing the data, developing, organizing and summarizing information, and preparing final reports.
  • Perform various other job assignments as requested by the Director of Human Resources. 
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to and the respect for the cultural diversity of others.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree and one (1) to two (2) years related experience and/or training in employee wellness, employee relations, human resources or a related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
