Responsibilities
Verizon’s Workplace Accommodation Team, is a highly skilled technical team which is responsible for fulfilling complex accommodations request under the American with Disabilities Act (ADA). As a member of this team you will act independently to develop solutions to complex problems, this requires the ability to balance good business sense along with relevance to various key factors such as, labor contracts, local practices, federal and state statutes. This requires the frequent use of creativity by analyzing the situations or data required for an in-depth evaluation of variable factors, including business needs, labor contracts, local practices and various state statues.
Position Responsibilities
This position is responsible for engaging with employees, supervisors, and HR Business Partners to assist employees with disabilities who require workplace accommodations that enable them to perform their jobs by providing reasonable accommodations.
Responsibilities of the position include:
Conducting the intake interview and engage in the interactive process
Gathering relevant facts from multiple sources including medical data
Engaging with medical vendor to validate the disability
Analyzing requests for accommodations taking into consideration the needs of the business and the needs of the employee.
Ensuring that accommodations are in alignment within the respective collative bargaining agreements and Verizon Policies
Appling successful strategies and best practices to determine appropriate accommodations that will enable employees with disabilities to be productive in their jobs
Maintaining accurate detailed documentation
Serving as Company witness in depositions/arbitrations cases and trials for litigated cases
Holding regular cross functional Reasonable Accommodation Calls to discuss restriction cases and available job openings to facilitate the priority placement process for employees who are unable to perform the essential functions of their jobs
Required Skills & Experience
- BS/BA in Human Resource Management or related field or equivalent work experience.
- 4+ years of HR experience in one or more of the following areas: Employee Relations, Labor Relations, Absence Management, Project Management
- Extensive experience with ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) and familiarity with FMLA (Family and Medical Leave Act), including current experience in statutes, regulations and guidance issued by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) pertaining to ADA accommodations.
- Ability to balance good business sense along with relevance to various key factors such as, labor contracts, local practices, federal and state statutes.
- Strong problem solver, ability to create and provide meaningful actions applying judgment as needed—understanding "gray" areas.
- Ability to documents in an electronic tracking system for managing case data bases while maintaining high levels of confidentiality.
- Ability to work with managers and employees at all levels in the business.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently demonstrating leadership.
- Strong organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize work and handle multiple tasks simultaneously and under pressure.
- Ability to understand and work in a legal environment, including presenting for legal proceeding and arbitrations.
Desired Skills & Experience
- Familiar with the most recent case law from the federal court system regarding ADA accommodations.
- Knowledge and familiarity with union contracts and bargained for plan documents that provide uniform treatment for bargained for employees.
- Experience conducting intake, engaging and documenting in the interactive process
- Fluent in medical diagnostic and treatment vernacular related to the interactive process
- Knowledge of the a case management tool.
- Familiar with the The Job Accommodation Network (JAN) programs and
Computer/ Electronic Accommodations Program (CAP).
