Special Assistant to the Chief of Staff & Vice President for University Strategy and Research Operations at New York

Job Description

The Special Assistant will serve as a key member of the staff in the Office of the President and is responsible for coordinating and prioritizing a wide-range of projects and timelines, including establishing objectives and performing the associated research, drafting complex and sensitive correspondence, and handling multifaceted office functions and procedural tasks.  Will serve as a liaison for the Chief of Staff & Vice President for University Strategy and Research Operations, managing his calendar and correspondence, identifying priorities to ensure that critical strategic issues are addressed promptly, gaining cooperation of others, and acting on his behalf as required. Will arrange travel and meetings, develop briefings, itineraries and agendas, problem-solve, suggest and implement changes, and provide general support as needed.

Job Requirements


Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of five years of related and progressively responsible work experience required.  Experience in a similar setting strongly preferred.  Must have excellent discretion, judgment, tact, initiative, creativity, critical thinking skills, and self-motivation.  Outstanding written and verbal communication skills are essential.  Ability to anticipate and assess situations accurately and recommend/implement effective courses of action required. Expertise in all Microsoft Office Suite (preferably Mac OS) applications and other electronic applications for organization and project management required.  Must have very strong interpersonal skills and be highly effective in establishing relationships with key constituents both within and outside the institution, and professionally represent the Chief of Staff and Vice President for University Strategy and Research Operations.
